We will walk for food
I started the day walking to the bakery to pick up almond croissants. The round trip was about a half an hour versus the 3-minute walk to our usual spot. It was well worth the walk. We didn't have much planned for today, but it turned into a food centered day. We stopped for lunch on our way to Le Souffle, where we had reservations for a dessert souffle. We stumbled upon a covered passageway and found a great place for lunch. There are several covered passages which house multiple shopping and eating establishments. I think they were originally built to provide covered shopping areas to protect customers from unpleasant weather and walking conditions. This passageway was full of quirky shops. We'll need to go back another day to explore it further.
We had time for a quick stop in the Galerie Lafayette. This is a huge store that has a beautiful stained-glass dome and a separate roof deck with a fabulous view of Paris. I'm sure the shopping is amazing but neither of us is that interested in shopping. Although Jack did linger a bit at around the fine watches. He also was drawn to a random street market we passed that was selling watches at one of the tables.
Our stop for souffles was definitely a highlight of the day. Jack selected the Grand Manier and I had the pistachio with chocolate sauce. They were amazing. We decided to walk home to burn off a few of the calories. We took the long way through Tuileries Garden which is our favorite garden so far. In addition to being beautiful it ends up at the Louvre and the glass pyramid. The flowers and trees are in bloom making the perfect backdrop for this amazing area. There is so much interesting architecture that walking different streets always exposes us to new views. A casual glance down one street revealed a striking view of Sacre Coeur. We walked over 6 miles today but we're so busy looking at our surroundings that we hardly noticed. Now that we are on the couch, we notice, but when we are walking, we are distracted.
