Our day began with a buffet breakfast. Everything was great but we did have to ask what a couple of things were. As we were heading to the American cemetery, we passed a beach monument and the Omaha Beach Museum.  We stopped at each and learned more about the great sacrifices our soldiers made to save democracy. The cemetery was beautiful and overwhelming.  Over 9000 soldiers are buried here. It is hard to fathom the loss that occurred in just a few days. The grounds are carefully maintained and are next to the water. It is a beautiful setting. 

Our next stop was Rouen to see a Cathedral Monet painted. It is quite impressive.  Some of the statues inside are from the 12th century. 
The town of Rouen is large. The center has remained quaint with old churches and homes. It was very charming.  
After dropping off the rental car we picked up a baguette and cheese as we walked home. I felt very Parisian.

    What a beautiful cathedral! The sculpture at Omaha Beach surprised me as to how modern it is. And now I’m hungry for French cheese and a baguette!

 I can't believe this is our last day. We fly out early tomorrow morning so we are spending the night at a hotel near the airport that has a shuttle. It's a swanky old place We returned the rental car so the end feels real. I'll try to summarize everything after we get home and settled but the bottom line is this has been an amazing adventure. We arrived

Our travel philosophy has been we need to travel while we still can. Early this evening we were both questioning whether we waited too long. Our red-eye was delayed by two and a half hours so we didn't take off until @1 AM. Neither of us got much sleep. It is amazing how uncomfortable airplane seats are.  Our apartment is on the third floor, which we knew, but lugging suitcases up stairs was a challenge.  The woman who met us at the apartment locked herself out so we passed the time in a nearby Cafe until she got the key. It ended up being a good thing. Some coffee and French onion soup refreshed us. I was able to skip a nap. Jack took a short rest and we pushed ourselves out. We walked to Notre-Dame which is about 10 minutes from us. The area is lovely and the outside of Notre-Dame is amazing.  We will tour inside another day.
