Top of the World

 It has been a busy and wonderful day. We did our best to fit everything in and we did a pretty good job of it. We started the day with a cable car ride, actually 3 cable car rides, to the top of a mountain. This is where they filmed the James Bond movie On Her Majesty's Secret Service. The only impressive thing about the movie was the setting which was amazing. Again, the pictures don't do it justice. When we arrived there was quite a bit of cloud cover, meaning we were above the clouds that were covering a lot of the mountains, The clouds gradually cleared, mostly, and the view was spectacular. We had coffee, and Jack had a glass of champagne, in the restaurant on the top of the site. The restaurant gradually turned 360 degrees to allow for a very impressive view. We felt like we were on the top of the world.  

We descended 2 cable car rides to an adorable, little village where we had fondue for lunch. Yes, we know we are being typical tourists. From lunch we went back to the cable car for the final leg down. From here we walked to a place that has waterfalls inside caves. The walk was more impressive than the venue since we passed multiple waterfalls and didn't need to climb hundreds of stairs. This venue wasn't our favorite part of the day. We took the bus back to our neighborhood and found some gelato. It made up for the stairs!

Tonight we will be going to a restaurant that we went to last night. It is a local place that is next door to our B&B. It is a self-serve; you need to go to the bar to order your food and drinks and set your own table. It's small and quaint and not crazy expensive. Switzerland is crazy expensive. They serve local fare and the food is very good.

We arrived

Our travel philosophy has been we need to travel while we still can. Early this evening we were both questioning whether we waited too long. Our red-eye was delayed by two and a half hours so we didn't take off until @1 AM. Neither of us got much sleep. It is amazing how uncomfortable airplane seats are.  Our apartment is on the third floor, which we knew, but lugging suitcases up stairs was a challenge.  The woman who met us at the apartment locked herself out so we passed the time in a nearby Cafe until she got the key. It ended up being a good thing. Some coffee and French onion soup refreshed us. I was able to skip a nap. Jack took a short rest and we pushed ourselves out. We walked to Notre-Dame which is about 10 minutes from us. The area is lovely and the outside of Notre-Dame is amazing.  We will tour inside another day. We stopped at a local market and picked up a few essentials, wine, coffee, cream, and hot sauce.  We also picked up something light for dinne...

 I can't believe this is our last day. We fly out early tomorrow morning so we are spending the night at a hotel near the airport that has a shuttle. It's a swanky old place We returned the rental car so the end feels real. I'll try to summarize everything after we get home and settled but the bottom line is this has been an amazing adventure. I am so happy I kept this blog so we'll be able to go through it and remember everything we've done. It is a bit of a blur right now.  I do remember what we did today. We started with a nice breakfast at our hotel in Argegno and then drove to Cernobbio. This is a lovely town on Lake Como that we passed on the way to the hotel. It's very small but managed to fit in three churches. It was beautifully landscaped and is home to a very exclusive hotel we weren't able to get near, and some large villas.
