This should be the last time we are in three countries in one day. Traveling was a little easier today since we hired a driver to take us from Rovinj, Croatia to Trieste, Italy. It was only about an hour and a half ride but it made a big difference in the car rental. Since we picked up the car in Croatia we had to drop it off there. We picked up a different car in Italy and will be in Italy for the rest of the trip.
We stopped at a gas station for brunch. It was surprisingly good. I had heard that they served good food and we were pleased with a spec (a type of ham) and brie sandwich and a couple of pastries.
When we arrived in Verona, we were a little surprised by the crowd. It thinned as the night went on but I thought at this time of year it wouldn't be an issue. That being said, when we visited the most beautiful church in the area, there were very few people there. This church, Santa Anastasia, was breathtaking. It was built between the 1300s and the 1700s. The carvings, frescos, and marble columns and floors are amazing. I took too many pictures but you might want to zoom in on a couple of them to see the detail.
We proceeded to walk around town and decided we love Verona. Everywhere you turn you see history and beauty. There is also a lot of shopping available if that is what you are interested in doing. We preferred looking at the river, a castle and the ancient Roman Arena. We were able to see a lot in one afternoon. We enjoyed a glass of wine in one of the Piazzas overlooking the Arena. The moon rose over the Arena adding to the unreal visual.
We found a little authentic restaurant and had dinner. It was away from the crowds and pleasant. We both had pasta since we are in Italy!

It's interesting to see the old mixed in with the new. You filled your day with memories. Enjoy Verona, its culture and its food.
