Our day started with a cable car ride to the top of Mount Baldo. The cable car is a 10 minute walk from our apartment. Unfortunately, we arrived at the top of the mountain at the same time as the clouds so our time there was limited. We couldn't see a thing. There was a stop part way down so we took advantage of that and enjoyed the view. It was spectacular. We could see Lake Garda and Malcesine clearly from the mid-stop.

When we arrived back we took the ferry to Limone which is across the lake from us. It is a small town that is famous for it's lemons. In spite of the fact that it is not a Mediterranean climate they established a system to grow citrus fruit. They have terraced gardens as part of the castle property. Aside from that, they had many shops and you might have guessed a lot of the stores have lemon themed items. They also have a number of restaurants and we enjoyed lunch here. Jack and I each ordered a limoncello spritz. It was a little sweet for my liking but it seemed like something we needed to try. The town was more crowded than I expected. I guess there weren't really that many people, but the town is small and felt crowded I can't imagine what it is like in season.

The ferry rides back and forth were lovely. The mountains surrounding the lake remind me of Lake Braies only much larger. The water isn't quite as blue/green but that might be due to the clouds. It rained lightly for a brief time today but it was pretty nice otherwise. The forecast for the next few days is for rain so we wanted to squeeze in some outside activities today.

This is the bathroom door at the cable car stop, my name either means lady or toilet in Italian. I'm hoping for lady.

  2. I'm glad to see that your fear of heights isn't stopping you from having such fantastic experiences. Donna does mean woman or female in Italian but I think they wanted you to feel special and welcome.

  3. Great view from your lodging. I would have been tired of the steps by now too but the scenery was awesome. (Helen)
