We ventured out to Sibenik this morning. It's about 40 minutes from where we are staying and another lovely old town on the Adriatic. We were very lucky to visit on St. Michael's day as the town was celebrating, He is their patron saint. You could hear the joyous music throughout the town. We enjoyed wandering around and exploring with a beautiful musical background for much of our day. I'm hoping some of the videos are good enough for you to experience part of what we did. We happened upon the conclusion of one of the church services that was held at St. James Cathedral. We followed the music to this beautiful Cathedral. The service was held outside so I was able to video some of it.
We visited St. Michael's Fortress and after climbing multiple steps we were treated to a view of the city as well as an opportunity to see the fortress. They started building the fortress in the 1400s.
The town of Sibenik is lovely and has many shops and cafes as well as apartments where people live. Some of Game of Thrones was filmed here, near St James Cathedral.
We had a lovely lunch where some of the parishioners, or choir members, from the service were also dining. At one point they stood and sang. I think it might have been their version of grace. I caught part of it. I hope it loads so you can hear. Visiting Sibenik would have been special on it's own. The musical soundtrack that accompanied our visit was an added bonus. It's interesting in that most of the places we've been have played American music. Today was definitely a welcome change.
We made a quick stop in a little harbor town called Vodice on our way home. We had to pick up something for dinner. The town seemed nice but it actually reminded me of the Jersey shore.
We made the last scary drive home. Jack doesn't find it scary any more. The view definitely makes up for the drive. I took pictures of the view from our yard spanning sunrise to sunset that I hope reflect some of the beauty we have experienced during our stay here. We leave tomorrow for our next step in our adventure. We will be moving inland which should be good timing as it seems like the weather is shifting away from spending days on the beach.
