We moved out of our place in Murter, Croatia today. It was an incredibly beautiful place but I won't miss the road. Jack came around and says it was no big deal. We headed to Plitvice Lakes National Park after a stop in Zadar. 

Zadar is an interesting city with some parts dating back to BC. Much of the city was destroyed over the years through war. It sustained significant bombing during WW2. It seems to have been the epicenter of a lot of battles. Some of the old remains include Roman ruins and a few old churches. Mixed in with these remains are new buildings, shops and restaurants. All of this exists along the beautiful Adriatic. The area away from the coast presents as a typical city, fairly modern and not solely focused on tourism like most of the other cities we have visited. We explored a bit of the Old Town and had a nice lunch at a Thai restaurant. It was nice to mix things up a bit food wise. 

As we traveled from Zadar to the town of Korana near Plitvice Lakes National Park we experienced a significant change of environment. We traveled from the beach to the inland mountains and experienced varied landscapes in this 2 hour journey. The temperature also dropped quite a bit. We passed sheep, cows and horses along the way as well as tree covered mountains. Our home for the next couple of days is 5 minutes from the National Park and set off the road in a quiet little community consisting of @ 20 homes. The house itself is situated right next to a waterfall which we can see from our windows. Right after we unpacked we enjoyed a glass of wine on the porch over looking the waterfall. Plitvice Lakes is full of lakes and waterfalls so we view this as preparation for tomorrow. Needless to say, we like it here!

    More beautiful scenery--love the view from your house! I had Plitvice Lakes NP on my list of things to do in Central Europe, but had to cut it out because of lack of time. It looks stunning from the pictures I've seen. Enjoy!!

    Zadar sounds like an interesting place to learn about. The view from your new room is outstanding. What a place to relax!

 I can't believe this is our last day. We fly out early tomorrow morning so we are spending the night at a hotel near the airport that has a shuttle. It's a swanky old place We returned the rental car so the end feels real. I'll try to summarize everything after we get home and settled but the bottom line is this has been an amazing adventure. I am so happy I kept this blog so we'll be able to go through it and remember everything we've done. It is a bit of a blur right now.  I do remember what we did today. We started with a nice breakfast at our hotel in Argegno and then drove to Cernobbio. This is a lovely town on Lake Como that we passed on the way to the hotel.  Today we traveled to Kotor. The journey included amazing views which made our day. We traveled through the mountain area to experience something different. we achieved that goal. Jack liked the drive enjoying all the switchbacks, crazy turns and dangerous narrow roads. I was mostly okay with it. I was terrified at times but the views were amazing. I captured some of it but the pictures do not do it justice. Our room is great but includes an incline and about 80 steps. We should be in much better shape at the end of this trip, or in the hospital. There is a swimming entry to the bay at the end of our driveway.  We made it! We are in Montenegro. The flight was delayed about a half an hour but that wasn't a problem. There was a baby screaming for about half the trip but I felt more sorry for the parents and people sitting near it than us. Neither Jack nor I got more than an hour's worth of sleep. First lesson of the trip is don't fly Basic Economy on an over-night flight. We were so cramped it was impossible to get comfortable enough to sleep. You know it was bad if Jack didn't sleep. Getting the rental at the airport went vey smoothly and we were off. Jack was a trouper and handled the driving and navigation beautifully. I was completely useless and ended up with a migraine that resulted in frequent stops along the way. Aside from that, the travel itself was as good as we could have asked. We were through the border in less then half an hour. I had read it could take hours. We connected with the car ferry seemlessly, and were on our way through the windy mountain roads. Not id...
