You may have noticed we aren't big on tours but we made another exception today and it was a good choice. We toured the Kornati Islands leaving port at 9AM and returning at 5PM. We sat with an older couple on the boat. They only spoke Turkish so we had minimal interaction. It's been tough for Jack not being able to socialize. The majority of people on the tour did not speak English. The few that did were very nice but there wasn't much opportunity to chat.
We were greeted with a shot of some type of brandy as the boat left port. No one seemed to be bothered by the fact that it was 9AM so I went with it. When in Croatia you do as Croatians. I know none of you will be surprised that Jack didn't have a problem with going along.
The Kornati island group is huge and it took about 45 minutes to get to them. We made stops at 2 islands to swim or explore. As you'll see from the pictures we opted for swimming. The climb at the first stop looked interesting but way more effort than we wanted to expend. The water was beautiful as was the scenery. At the second stop a group of women who must have been in a choral group formed a circle in the water and sang. I don't know what the language was but they very having a great time and the music was entertaining. This combined with the multiple languages spoken on the beach made for a different experience. Unfortunately another boat arrived at the same port and a large group of people came on the beach. Fortunately, Jack already took a little nap on the rocks after our swim so we were ready to go back to the boat. Many people changed on the beach again but most of them were a little discreet and used towels to cover. Not all of them bothered with towels.
The scenery from the boat was different from anything Jack or I have seen before. There were hundreds of islands and varied in their topography. Some were covered in trees and others consisted of interesting stone formations. It was all beautiful.
When we returned to Murter we took a quick walk around the town and enjoyed some gelato before heading back to the house. Anniversary or not, we need to be home before dark. Jack is doing a great job driving but the road back to house is still terrifying.
