It was rainy and a bit cooler today. We explored nearby coves and enjoyed lunch out. We went to a nicer restaurant and shared the table with two cats. The table sat five so there was plenty of room. Each cat had it's own seat. We didn't mind but were a little surprised when the hostess sat us and didn't shoo the cats away. We were on a covered porch so we were kind of outside but it was a bit strange. They must be well fed since they didn't bother us at all while we ate. Jack had black risotto which is made with cuttlefish aka squid. It is a local item on a lot of menus. He enjoyed it and his lips and teeth only turned black for a brief period. Apparently, that is a sign of the real deal where the ink from the squid is used in the dish. I had fish wrapped in a paper with vegetables. Once the nice young lady who served it explained how to open it and eat it I enjoyed it very much. We are trying to be adventurous and eat local cuisine that we haven't had before. So far we have been very pleased. There was one other group at the restaurant and we think they were from Belgium based on the flag on the boat they arrived on. We have heard very few English speaking visitors since we arrived on Solta. Most of the people in the restaurants and stores speak English so we haven't had any problem communicating .
Leaving the restaurant took us on another adventure as Google doesn't distinguish between real roads and paths used to harvest olives. We ventured down one of those paths until there was a small indent on the side of the road that Jack was able to use to turn around. At least there weren't any pedestrians or other cars that he had to navigate around.
Going through our little town on the way home we were surprised by the number of people in the local restaurants. The harbor was full of boats both private and tour. It is a very nice place to stop and I guess on a rainy day there aren't many options. Jack cooked tonight and we are looking forward to watching something on Netflix. We have a TV but haven't been able to figure out how to watch anything on TV since we left home. We haven[t miss it yet.
Some pictures from Necujam, a little village near where we are staying. It's a bit worn looking which is surprising since it seems like it hasn't been around that long. Our village has been around since the 1600s a lot of buildings in this town seem like they were built in the 60's or 70's. I'm just guessing at that. The cove itself is beautiful.
Church in town that seemed much older than most of the buildings.
Random road sign. They use these instead of putting up fences to keep the cows in. We did not see any cows on this trip.
Rogac-near the restaurant.
Jack making friends with our lunch companions. We barely fit down the road/path and we have a VW Polo which is very small.
I've had the same experience driving down a farm road in Italy. Had to make a 12 point turn to get out. These are all fun adventures!-jean
