We had another early start as we headed to Lumbarda which is on the island of Korcula. We took the car ferry which left from Orebic and was about 2 hours from our apartment. The weather report was calling for significant thunder storms today so we wanted to head out before the sea got too rough. We made the 9:30 ferry and crossed the sea with no problem. It did start to rain for the last part of the drive to the ferry but it didn't interfere. We stopped briefly in Korcula city upon arrival for a light breakfast and a glimpse at Old City, not to be confused with all the Old Towns we've seen lately. It is worth exploring and we'll get back to it, Fortunately, our host was able to accommodate our early arrival. We are staying in a small establishment that has a few apartments and grows their own grapes and makes their own wine. There are also fruit trees and olive trees on the small property. We were greeted with a bottle of their wine. It was only about 11 AM but it would have been rude to refuse a taste. Our host hardly speaks any English. She speaks Croatian and German. As ignorant American's we only have one language but we have made due so far. Our host seems very kind and the view from our balcony is amazing.
We lucked out and there was a break in the rain. We explored the local surroundings and found a nice little place for lunch that is within walking distance and right on the water. From there we ventured to the local supermarket. It was large and well stocked but nothing was in English. We made due with Google Translate and looking at pictures. It was actually fun trying to navigate this usually typical situation with the complication of not knowing the language.
We returned to the apartment just as the rain started again. Right now there is a real storm happening and we are very happy we bought things to make diner along with wine and cheese and crackers. We are both ready for a quiet evening and are pleased with our new setting. Lumbarda appears to be a very quaint little area, close enough to town to be convenient but far enough to have parking and quiet. We are hoping the weather clears tomorrow. We might take a boat tour of some of the smaller islands in the area. We were able to buy coffee that we think will work in the coffee pot that's here. Looking forward to having coffee in the apartment before we start our day is a little thing but we are looking forward to that simple pleasure. The power is going on and off so hopefully all will be good in the morning.
Random shot from the road
The usual wart hog crossing sign, at least that's what I think it is. They are all over the roads but we haven't seen a wart hog yet.
View from the road of grape vines in Pelješac peninsula which is known for it's wine
More windy, mountainous roads. I am glad we completed most of this part of the journey before the rain.

Looks very interesting. Wonderful pictures and I'm enjoying taking the journey with you. (Helen)
