We had another beautiful beach day at Africa Beach Bar after getting coffee in town. I love stopping in town and watching boats come and go while listening to assorted conversations in what I think is mostly Croatian. Every morning as we walk through town we hear a rooster in the distance. (The rooster can be heard all day.) It's oddly comforting but at the same time I'm happy it's in the distance.

We had multiple folks changing on the beach today. Since it was Sunday there were more people than the other days we've been here. There were a few ladies who I think were speaking French, that joined us today. They changed into their bathing suits after arriving. Jack had his back to them and I was unsure if as a wife, I should have let him know. I choose not to. He later let me know that he had to divert his eyes on two occasions earlier as women were changing behind me. A young man also changed into his suit when he arrived at the beach. Obviously America is much more concerned with public nudity than other cultures. I don't know whether that's a positive but Jack and I are opting to stick to American tradition in this regard. I finished a really good book today if anyone is looking for something to read. It is called Daughters of Shandon. It is set in the late 1940's during the Chinese civil war. I know nothing about this history and enjoyed the way the author brought the time period to life.

We brought lunch again which has worked out well. Africa Bar only serves drinks. I branched out today and had a chocolate croissant( purchased at the grocery store) and a pistachio yogurt along with a couple of local plums. Not a common lunch or the best for me, but I'm continuing our quest to sample local specialties. The yogurt is really good. We should have it in America.

Dinner out this evening was wonderful. I had sea bass and Jack had grilled octopus. We sat next to the owner which we learned after the hostess almost sat us at his table. He arrived a little after us.

During communications with the property manager we learned that the couple downstairs are her parents. We thought they were the owners. They have been delightful. It's amazing how you can form an impression of people without speaking the same language. The owner's father shared some limes with us. They are orange inside and delicious. I think they are Mandarin limes, but I could be wrong. We told the "dad" how much we liked the limes when we were on our way to dinner. When we returned there was a basket full of them waiting for us for our journey. This couple could not have been nicer and they are so hard working. The dad refers to his wife as his women. He says it with such affection it doesn't have the demeaning connotation it might normally have. I think this might be partly due to the rough translation and limits on English. We have never stayed in a neater setting. As much as Jack keeps up with our stones at the beach, he has nothing on 'his women'. It seems like flower petals are swept away as quickly as they drop. The 'dad' also seems to be working all the time. He was in the process of planting his fall garden this week.

We packed up this morning since we'll be taking the 8AM ferry in the morning. We will be heading back the the mainland, Split, before driving up he coast to the island of Murter. We are going to miss this place and can definitely envision returning at some point. We are halfway through our adventure and are looking forward to seeing what comes next.

Pictures taking walking to and from and at the beach. The boats look like they are on glass since the water is so clear.

  2. How long of a walk was it to the beach? I'm glad the hosts and their mom & dad were so nice to you. It seems like leaving there will be hard.
