It's been a busy day. We started with an Early Bird tour of Dubrovnik. It began at 8AM which allowed us to miss most of the crowds. The tour guide was fabulous and we learned a lot about the history of the town. They have been taken over multiple times by Venice, France, Austria, rebuilt after earthquakes and fires, and most recently survived being attacked by Montenegro. They have 54 Catholic Churches within a very small area which was intentional to avoid the Venetians from attacking. They have rebuilt many times and the town is amazing. It gets really crowded so we were glad we visited in the evening and early morning. We walked through in the afternoon after returning from our island visit and it was pretty mobbed.

From Dubrovnik we took a ferry to the island of Lokrum. This place was truly magical. The views of the sea and swimming areas were wonderful and they had ruins from Maximilian's residence from the the 1800s. The magical part included the island's peacocks which roam freely all over the island. It's very strange looking up on the beach or at lunch and seeing a peacock standing next to you. It was definitely a memorable afternoon.

We heading to the southern part of where we are staying to visit the Cave Bar. The bar is a real cave that was discovered when they built the Hotel More. They incorporated the cave into their lower level bar. It is definitely unique and a fun place to have a drink.

Swimming area that was great to swim in but I wasn't a fan of sitting on the rocks. No one will be surprised that Jack actually fell asleep laying on rocks. These were not little crushed pebbles, but good sized rocks.

Another random cat-the tour guide explained the cats were brought in centuries ago to kill the rats that caused the plague. They have thrived. She also explained other techniques they used to minimize the spread of the plague which were largely successful.

  1. I am loving reading your blog. You two look like you are having a great time. FYI. The palm Jack is standing under is a sago pine. They are all over California. Sandy P
