We're acclimating to our new lifestyle and adapting to having fewer everyday conveniences than we have at home. We have been handwashing clothes as we've gone along but today we did the equivalent of a full load.(I thought I booked more places with washing machines.)  One advantage of this place is it's large clothes line and steady breeze from being so high up. You learn to appreciate the little things. We are looking forward to having a washer and dryer readily available when we get back home. Making coffee is something else we miss. Each place has had coffee making options but nothing that compares with what we have at home. Jack has said one of his first purchases when we get home will be a 20 ounce WAWA coffee. Good coffee is available out but the cups are small.

Speaking of acclimating, I forgot to mention in my last blog in Solta that I greeted a dapper gentleman that we passed on the street a few times during the week. I think he lived up the road from us. I used the Croatian words for good day, dober dan. I must have said it correctly because he responded with a lengthy reply. Obviously I had no idea what he was saying and let him know I didn't speak Croatian. I felt badly since he seemed like a very charming fellow and I was interested in what he had to say. I should have learned more Croatian.

We spent this afternoon on the beach. It was a little more crowded today and we had our first encounters with nude sunbathers on a community beach. There was an older women who changed bathing suits multiple times but in between she sunbathed topless. It seemed a little strange as her husband was chatting with a another man as his wife lay next to him. The other man didn't seem to be phased and I noticed a little later that he was completely naked on his lounge chair. I take that back, he had his hat on. He was face down initially and when he flipped over he strategically placed a small piece of clothing. This was the first time we encountered this level of nudity on a family beach. I must have been some type of school holiday because there were a few families on the beach and multiple children. These kids kept running back and forth past the naked man and the topless women. They weren't bothered and neither were their parents but it did make Jack and I uncomfortable because of the kids. Neither of us is phased by people changing on the beach at this point but the kids running back and forth gave it a different feel.

Dinner tonight was takeout from the beach bar. We ordered a lamb peka two days ago to take home tonight. A peka is a cooking process that takes multiple hours so it needs to be ordered in advance. It was delicious and we ordered enough so we can have another meal from it. Since we can't be out after dark due to the scary road, dinner needs to be take out.

It's been another good day. The only stress is driving back and forth on the road to our house. You know it's bad if it makes Jack nervous. Aside from the road this place is amazing. Our view today was full of sailboats on the Adriatic with the Kornati Islands in the distance. The sea is visible from our bed and from the kitchen table so we can tolerate the anxiety we experience when we come and go.

Laundry day without any neighbors to bother. I guess this is our side yard.
                                            Morning pictures from the yard
                                            All those dots are sailboats

Beach shots, a number of sailboats moored in the harbor today.
If you zoom in to Jack's left you can see the gentleman who was going for the all over tan. As I said he is wearing a hat, but that's it. In fairness he was there first but when we sat down he had on his bathing suit.

I was on the phone for a bit. That's Jack walking up to check on me. It was a lovely place to take a call.
The naked man is just beyond the trees. I could have done without seeing that.
Jack thought this sailor was having a blast.
It's difficult to tell but the water is crystal clear.

Dining on our picnic table with a lovely view. Jack wanted me to mention his Dad since he always liked getting table pictures.

  1. Well, I'm used to hanging clothes out to dry (as long as it's about 60 degrees or warmer), but having to wash them by hand is a whole other thing. Good for you for being so resourceful! Umm--where's the cat picture of the day?? 😹

    1. We didn't see any cats today. I commented to Jack on our lack of sightings after posting.

  2. Even though you had to eat dinner in, at least you have an amazing view while doing so.

  3. Gorgeous! I'm surprised Jack didn't manage to get on one of the sailboats. (Helen)
